Scene tools

Scenes in CooSpace can be viewed from two perspectives:

  • Professors' mode: they have the right to create and operate tools in scenes. Professors are able to enable communication, assessment, collaboration and learning via setting up different tools in scenes.
  • Students' mode: they use the tools which were created by professors, thus can upload and contribute to creating content, and they can also submit essays and take exams in CooSpace, if it is enabled by the professors.

Forum

Forum is one of the most popular communication tools in online learning environments. In CooSpace, there are moderators and users in a forum, which means that moderators can delete or modify the users' comments. You may attach files or embed videos in a CooSpace forum comment. Forum is a suitable tool for conversations, help-seeking, or constructive discussions about different topics that can enhance contribution and teamwork between the members of a certain scene.

Newsboard

On a newsboard, professors can inform their students about up-to-date, current news regarding the scene. It is a one-way communication form, that works similar to a real newsboard, so the students cannot answer to the news, they can only read and like them. Professors can modify the appearance properties of a newsboard, and also attach files to a newsboard post.

Blog

With the Blog tool, participants of a certain scene can write a blog about their learning experiences, the progression of a project, or about anything that the professor instructs them to write about. Professors have the right to start a blog and give submitting rights to students. Blog also can be used to fragment a longer content block and enable student reflections, therefore foster communication between the members of the scene.

Task

With this tool, students can upload and submit different kinds of tasks, and professors can evaluate the submitted tasks. Professors can set deadlines, type of evaluation (score, percentage, etc.), description for tasks, and attach files too.

Attendance

The attendance tool can be used to administrate absences, print the name list for a course, evaluate students' class work, take notes and attach files. Each member can take personal notes for each class or event, and these notes will be saved to Personal/Notes, where one can access them easily and can share them with others as well.

Documents

CooSpace provides storage space, where you can easily upload and access your files. You can place your files in folders, in order to keep them organized and structured. Although it depends on the settings of a certain folder if a student can upload files, or only download them from the folder.

Question bank

With the Question bank tool, you can create different types of questions (e.g. multiple choice, sorting, grouping…etc.) which you can organize in folders. By this, it will be easier to create tests, and the questions can be easily accessed and stuctured.

Questionnaire storage

With this tool, you can compose questionnaires from your questionbanks, which can contain random questionblocks and separators, and store them in CooSpace for further use. They can give the base of future exams, or just used as practice tests. The questionforms can be used as many times as you want. For a questionnaire, you can choose an arbitrary number and type of questions.

Exam test

Exam test is a tool for secure, quick and simple testing. Exam testing in CooSpace is based on the questionbanks and tests. In order to set up an online exam, we have to create an exam test, which professors can protect with a password. There are also options to specify the start and end of the examination, and give the opportunity for students to review the tests. After the students have filled out the test, CooSpace automatically evaluates them, according to the settings that the professor has set. Professors can also access th statistics of the test, which can also be exported.

Self-assessment

Professors can make tests for students to be used for self-assessment, so they can prepare for exams more successfully, and deepen their knowledge. The results of self-assessment can be seen only by the examinees, and self-assessment tests can be taken unlimited times.

Survey

In CooSpace, creating surveys is similar to creating exam tests - first, you have to collect the questions in the question bank, then create the survey, and finally, set the properties of the survey. Surveys are great tools for collecting feedbacks (e.g. user satisfaction, evaluation). Within the properties, you can also make anonym surveys, and after users have filled it out, the system can evaluate the results and provide statistical data that also can be exported for further use.

Application

The members of a certain scene have the opportunity to apply for options provided by the professor (e.g. if there are 2 groups, they can apply for either) and they can also write a comment that they can submit with their choice. Time of application can be set, so after it is closed, groups are automatically formed. These groups can have different sub-scenes, where the instructor can set up different tools. This way CooSpace supports co-operative education and communication within and between groups.

Poll

If professors would like to receive feedback in connection with any question regarding the course, they can set up the Poll tool and collect votes from the participants about different topics (e.g. "Did you like the presentation in class today?"). Members can express their oponion by voting on the options provided in advance. The participants can also write a comment and elaborate their choice in a comment up to 100 characters. The owner of the vote can set if voters can see each other's votes or not. The results of the vote are summarized and presented to the owner by CooSpace.

Organize groups

With this tool, professors have different opportunities to put members of a scene into groups. After groups have been named, we can choose that according to which method we would like to group the members:

  • manually select the members of the groups
  • let CooSpace to randomly organize groups
  • group the membery by alphabetical order

After the groups have been organized, we can optionally create sub-scenes for the groups. We can also set if members of different groups can see each other's activity.

Glossary

In CooSpace, every user can set up an own Glossary with terms and definitions, in their Personal Glossary (that can be found on the lower right part of the CooSpace page). The definitions can be organized into folders, which can be imported into any scene (although there can be only one glossary in a scene). In the glossary of a scene, terms and definitions can be found in alphabetical order. Glossaries can be a handy tool for storing not only definitions, but for language courses also.

Idea box

The Idea box is a useful tool for collecting ideas, but it it more than that. With the up and down arrows members can vote for the ideas, so in the same time of brainstorming, they can give feedback about others' ideas too, thus helping to choose the best option.

Link

The Link tool is for organizing URL-addresses and sharing it with members of scenes.
